Ahmed Mohammadali Haji is the Head of Department of Accountancy at the University of Johannesburg. Ahmed lectures Financial Accounting to final year students. Ahmed is also involved with several projects in conjunction with SAICA’s Thutuka Project, and has been involved with the Gauteng Board Course since 2005. He also lectures other Post-Graduate Programs consisting of Accounting Professional Training – PPE and Financial Management.

Ahmed is a CA(SA), having obtained his BCOM Accounting degree cum laude, his BCOM Accounting (Honours) degree cum laude, and a Top 10 position in the first part of the SAICA qualifying exam.

Karabo Kekana is the Deputy Head of Department of Accountancy and Subject Head at the University of Johannesburg. She joined the Financial Accounting team in 2018, prior to that she lectured on the third year team.

Karabo completed her B.Com Accounting (cum laude) in 2009 and obtained her B.Com Accounting (Honours) in 2010 at the University of Johannesburg. Karabo did her academic articles in 2011 and completed her articles with KPMG in 2013.

Karabo is a registered CA(SA) and holds her Masters in International Accounting.

Mrs Vanessa van Dyk completed her articles at KPMG in 2004. She joined the Department of Accountancy at the University of Johannesburg in 2005.

Mrs van Dyk is a registered CA(SA) and holds a Masters degree in Computer Auditing (cum laude). She is the Subject Head for Auditing in the Department of Accounting.

Ben Marx is professor in Auditing and the Director of the School of Accounting at the University of Johannesburg. He obtained the overall 3 rd place in the Qualifying Examination in his year.

He is involved in lecturing on the QE course since 1995.

Dewald Joubert

Dewald Joubert is the Subject Head of Managerial Accounting and Finance at the University of Johannesburg. Dewald lectures Cost and Management Accounting to Honours/CTA students. He has been involved with the Gauteng Board Course as well as the Board Fitness Course since 2005. Dewald is also a presenter on the APT APC program since 2014.

Dewald was appointed in 2006 by SAICA as an Academic Evaluator. Dewald lectures on several post-graduate courses offered by the University of Johannesburg.

Dewald is a CA (SA) and holds a Masters Degree in Financial Management.

Jelvin Griffioen joined the University of Johannesburg as a senior lecturer in 2004. Jelvin joined the CTA team in Financial Management after having lectured at undergraduate level.

Jelvin obtained his B COM ACC degree at the University of Pretoria cum laude in 1997 and completed his CTA studies at the University of Pretoria in 1998. Jelvin holds a Masters degree in Financial Management from the University of Johannesburg.

Michelle van Heerden obtained her B. Com Accounting (cum laude) with the Rand Afrikaans University in 1992. In 1993 she obtained her B. Com Accounting (Honours) also with the Rand Afrikaans University.

After completing her articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers, she qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1996. During October 1996 Michelle started specialising in tax by joining PricewaterhouseCooper’s international tax division.

In 1998 she obtained her M. Com South African and International Taxation degree with the Rand Afrikaans University. During her six years in the international tax division she managed major international clients, providing tax opinions for them on South African and International tax implications as well as writing articles for technical magazines. During this period, Michelle also presented numerous seminars locally and overseas as well as lectured taxation for Tukkies Honours and Masters students. PricewaterhouseCoopers also sent Michelle on a three month secondment to Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

In July 2002, Michelle joined the Rand Afrikaans University Honours team as a taxation lecturer. She has also presented Tax Update courses for SAICA. Michelle is currently the Subject Head: Taxation at the University of Johannesburg.

Muneer Hassan is the Deputy Head of Department of Accounting and Senior Lecturer at the University of Johannesburg. Muneer lectures Taxation to Honours/CTA students. He joined the University of Johannesburg during 2015 and previously lectured Taxation on the Honours programme with specialisation in Tax.

Muneer is a CA(SA), and CTA (Chartered Tax Advisor), he served articles at PwC and previously held positions of tax technical advisor at SARS, and senior executive: tax legislation and practitioners at SAICA. He previously served as a member of SAICA’s Examinations Committee. He is the academic member on the SAICA National Tax Committee and a member of the SAIT External Integrated Summative Assessment Committee (EISA). Muneer holds a PhD in Taxation from the University of Johannesburg.
